My tech journey is a mosaic of pivotal moments and decisions, and I'd like to start from the very beginning.
My romance with computers started when I was just 7. My father brought home a computer for his business, and while most kids my age were playing with toys, I was captivated by the PC. I would lovingly take it apart, explore its inner workings, and assemble it back. Those were my first baby steps into the vast world of technology.
By the time I hit 15, I had decided - technology was my calling. I vividly remember scouring a local bookstore and stumbling upon a programming book on the C language. That book became my guide, my manual into the intricate world of coding.
Two years later, I enrolled in computer engineering, marking another significant milestone in my tech journey. During these years, I deeply invested in learning Java, only to land my first internship, and soon after, with the then brand-new .NET 1.0.
Come 22, and my bags were packed, my heart filled with dreams, as I relocated from the peaceful Brazilian countryside to the ever-energetic São Paulo. Here, my career soared from being a software developer to embracing the role of a software architect. This evolution ushered opportunities to speak at tech events, engage with communities, and immerse in collective learning.
Life, as you may know, is never linear. On a seemingly random day, I felt the urge to start my own venture. The next 5 years of entrepreneurship were an enlightening experience – a mix of challenges, victories, and a whole lot of learning.
Yet, after half a decade, I felt the pull of the broader market once again. With a heart full of entrepreneurial wisdom, I decided to pivot back into the corporate realm. My attention shifted toward the retail and e-commerce sectors, primarily focusing on large enterprises. It's an exciting domain, where technology meets consumer dynamics.
Then, in 2020, a new adventure beckoned. I packed my bags once more, this time moving from Brazil to Portugal. Embracing a role as a Director of Engineering, I found a new home, new challenges, and new opportunities in this beautiful country. And here I am today, still navigating the ever-evolving tech landscape of Portugal and Europe.
Now, here I stand, with an old mug filled to the brim, eager to share tales, wisdom, and musings from this exhilarating ride.
